It is an exciting time of year for our elementary students at Waverly-Shell Rock. We look forward to visit-
ing with all of our parents in the next week for parent-teacher conferences. Our goal is to speak to 100% of

our parents. This time provides a great opportunity to discuss current student learning levels and progress,
as well as a time to talk through any questions.
We will once again be hosting our Scholastic Book Fair during parent-teacher conferences. Our students
are always excited to add new books to their collection. Any proceeds will also go directly back to
purchasing books for our teacher’s classroom libraries, the school library, or for our students.
Our students had a fantastic learning opportunity on February 9th. Multiple student leaders from the high
school made a visit to our school and led a leadership/character assembly. The high school leaders from

various programs such as student senate and orchestra spoke about teamwork, leadership, character, goal-
setting, and about being a great Go-Hawk leader. The students had fun learning how to make a G0-Hawk

call, as well as competing in a team building activity. Thank you to the high school for this awesome
partnership!
Valentine’s Day was a lot of fun for our students. Thank you to everyone who shared a treat with the staff,
as well as all of the students who shared treats with their classmates.

On February 28th, we will host our West Cedar Informance Night @ 7:00 pm in the Middle School Audito-
rium. Mrs. Nelson and Mrs. Wilkinson will lead our kindergarten through 4th grade students as they share

the skills they have been learning and working on in music and gym class. The performance will be about 1
hour. Our parent group will be selling Dairy Queen Dilly Bars to eat after the show. We know this will be
a fun night for the students. We would be excited to have you all in attendance for the West Cedar
Informance.

On March 2nd, we are excited to be hosting a VIP Reading Day at West Cedar. We will begin the VIP por-
tion of the school day at 2:30 PM. We cordially invite a special guest to come to school and join the stu-
dents in creating a time together to remember. This is in conjunction with Read Across America Day which

is celebrated each year to encourage students to read and develop a passion for reading. Guests will go to
their child’s classroom at 2:30 pm for some time reading and/or activity and snack. Due to space reasons,
we really appreciate everyone waiting to enter the school until 2:30 pm. Our students will have normal

classes until 2:30 that day. We are grateful for our Parent Group providing cookies for the event. We be-
lieve this will be a memorable day for our students. If you haven’t signed up, but still want to attend, please

contact Michelle in the office.
I am excited to share that nearly 80% of our K-4 elementary students at W-SR met the state of Iowa’s
FAST Benchmark during the winter testing cycle. This is a very high achievement level across the Central
River’s AEA elementary schools. This is a tribute to the hard work and dedication of our great students,
teaching staff, and parents! We will test again later this spring. We are excited about the individual growth
our students are making in reading and in math.

There will be no school at W-SR on March 13th through March 17th due to spring break. School will re-
sume on Monday, March 20th.

Have a great rest of the month of February, and please reach out if I can be of help or support in any way.
Go Go-Hawks!
