𝗗𝗶𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄? 81% of the Waverly-Shell Rock Class of 2026 participated in at least one extracurricular or co-curricular activity during high school!

That is something worth celebrating.

Whether students are involved in athletics, fine arts, student organizations, leadership opportunities, career and technical student organizations, or other school activities, participation helps them build friendships, develop confidence, strengthen teamwork, practice leadership, and feel more connected to their school.

At Waverly-Shell Rock, we believe these experiences are an important part of educating the whole child. They give students opportunities to discover their strengths, pursue their interests, and create memories that last well beyond graduation.

We are proud of the Class of 2026 and grateful for the coaches, sponsors, directors, staff members, families, and community supporters who make these opportunities possible.

𝗗𝗶𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄? During the 2025–2026 school year, 139 Waverly-Shell Rock High School students earned 191 industry-recognized credentials!

These credentials represent real, workforce-ready skills in areas such as agriculture, OSHA safety, manufacturing and machining, welding, precision measurement, multimeter skills, and process engineering.

We are proud of our students for taking advantage of these opportunities, and we are grateful for the W-SR staff members who help connect classroom learning to real-world skills and future possibilities.

It’s a GREAT day to be a 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗿-𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘆 Go-Hawk!

industry-recognized credentials
𝗗𝗶𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄? Waverly-Shell Rock’s Class of 2026 is headed in many different directions after graduation, and we are proud of every path our graduates are choosing.

Some are continuing their education at four-year colleges, community colleges, or other postsecondary programs. Others are entering the workforce, beginning apprenticeships, or serving our country through the military. Some will stay close to home in Iowa, while others will take their next steps out of state.

No matter the path, each graduate represents a story of growth, effort, support, and possibility.

At Waverly-Shell Rock, our goal is to help students discover their strengths, pursue meaningful goals, and prepare for their future. The Class of 2026 is a wonderful example of what that can look like.

Congratulations to our graduates as they take their next steps!

𝗗𝗶𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄? Your Waverly-Shell Rock Board of Education members have made an ongoing commitment to learning and growth.

In addition to their regular board meetings, board members participate in training opportunities, workshops, conferences, and early-morning work sessions focused on board development. These experiences help board members deepen their understanding, stay informed, and continue making thoughtful decisions in support of our students, staff, families, and community.

This commitment to continuous learning has also been recognized by the Iowa Association of School Boards through the 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗔𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱, which honors boards that demonstrate a strong commitment to professional growth and effective governance.

We appreciate our board members for investing their time, energy, and leadership in service to Waverly-Shell Rock Community Schools.

WSR Board Members - Committment to Ongoing Learning

Yesterday, Waverly-Shell Rock school board members Shawn Ellerbroek, Charlene Wyatt-Sauer, and Dennis Epley, along with Superintendent David Hill, traveled to Ankeny to participate in the Iowa Association of School Boards’ Summit on Student Success.

This was not a typical conference. WSR's team spent the day learning alongside school board members and education leaders from across Iowa as they worked through real-world district scenarios, examined data, discussed governance strategies, and reflected on how strong board leadership can support better outcomes for students.

The timing of this summit was especially important. School districts across Iowa are facing difficult financial realities, including reduced funding due to declining enrollment, rising costs, new unfunded mandates, and the need to make thoughtful decisions about how to best use limited resources. IASB designed this learning opportunity to help school leaders stay focused on what matters most: making student-centered decisions that align with a clear vision for the future.

For Waverly-Shell Rock, this work connects directly to our mission: “Waverly-Shell Rock Community Schools: Where everyone belongs, grows, and succeeds.” By continuing to learn together, our board and district leaders are better prepared to make decisions that support WSR's strategic plan and reflect the district's values of Belonging, Opportunity, and Achievement and while keeping students, staff, families, and our community at the center of our work.

We are grateful for school board members who volunteer their time to learn, lead, and advocate for a strong future for Waverly-Shell Rock students.

It’s a GREAT day to be a Go-Hawk!
🦅💛🖤

Did you know? Waverly-Shell Rock Community Schools has a DATA DASHBOARD available on our website.

The dashboard provides a snapshot of district progress in a variety of areas, including student achievement, FAST literacy indicators, enrollment, and demographic information. It is currently updated through the 2024-2025 school year and will be updated again this fall once the district receives 2025-2026 ISASP assessment results.

We invite families, staff, and community members to explore the dashboard to learn more about our schools and the progress we are making in support of our our core values of Belonging, Opportunity, and Achievement.

The Data Dashboard also serves as Waverly-Shell Rock’s state-required annual report to the community.

Did you know? Since 2022, Waverly-Shell Rock Community Schools has been proactively testing our facilities for radon and publicly sharing the results—long before Iowa's public school testing requirement takes effect in 2027.

While Iowa law requires all public schools to conduct radon testing beginning in 2027, Waverly-Shell Rock became an early leader in adopting this important procedure. Private schools may voluntarily choose to test for radon and share the results publicly, but they are not required under the new law to participate. At WSR, we believe transparency matters when it comes to student and staff safety, which is why we have already been testing our facilities and sharing the results with our community.

You can view our radon testing plan and annual testing results on our website: https://www.wsr.k12.ia.us/page/our-schools (scroll to the bottom and then select RADON TESTING)
