✨ Fable Olympics in Mrs. Lee’s Class! ✨ Today, Mrs. Lee’s class wrapped up their fables and folktales reading unit with a fun and engaging “Fable Olympics.” Students competed in hands-on activities that helped them review the stories they read, practice key vocabulary, and reflect on the morals behind each tale. The events included: • The Maid and the Milk Pail – Students balanced a bucket from one end to the other. Moral: Don’t count your chickens before they’ve hatched! • The Goose and the Golden Egg – Students carefully transported their golden “egg” from the nest to a basket. Moral: Don’t be greedy! • The Fox and the Grapes – Students jumped to reach the grapes. Moral: Don’t be a sour grape! • The Tale of Peter Rabbit – Students raced to avoid being caught by “Mr. McGregor.” Moral: Always listen to your mom! The students had a wonderful time bringing these classic stories to life while strengthening their understanding of the important lessons each tale teaches.

As part of the Day of Caring on September 11, Prairie West students collected cereal to support our local food banks. We celebrated with a domino train of cereal boxes through Prairie West — a fun visual of how one act of giving can lead to another. Thank you to our students who are discovering the message of giving – not for applause or attention, but simply to make a difference in the lives of others.

Our Leader in Me kick off assembly was a huge hit this afternoon! Fourth grade students put in a lot of time and effort to bring the energy and Go Hawk spirit. Our Iowa versus Iowa State dress up day also added to the fun! What a great way to end our Fri-YAY! #leaderinme #leadervalley

This Wednesday, our amazing third graders dove into an exciting Teamwork Activity. Sam the Worm was enjoying a peaceful day in his boat when suddenly, a giant wave flipped him over, trapping his lifesaver underneath! Their mission? Using only ONE paperclip each (no hands allowed!), students had to rescue Sam and get him safely back into his lifesaver—without harming Sam, his boat, or the lifesaver. Along the way, students explored what teamwork looks, sounds, and feels like, learning the power of communication, patience, and creative problem-solving. Way to go third graders! Teamwork makes the dream work!

We kicked off Leader in Me with our students by hosting our first Go Hawk Academy! Our staff led all students through shared spaces in our school to learn what it means to be W-SR leaders: Work Hard, Stay Safe, and Respect All. Together, we explored the playground, the bathroom, our hallways, stairs, and the commons. We can't wait to see our Go Hawk leaders in action this school year!
