Our staff and students at Southeast are super creative! Mrs. Goeke and her reading students work hard on various strategies as they learn to become great readers. For Christmas, the class made snow globe tree ornaments that include mini-books of their favorite books they like to read. Super creative!

The kindergarteners has a special surprise in the library this week! They've been learning all about Jan Brett and listening to her fun stories about Hedgie the hedgehog. Real "Hedgies" came for a vistit and it was so much fun! A big THANK YOU to Ms. Boevers for helping us learn more about hedgehogs!
We exceeded out goal of 500 items. We collected 685 food and paper products. Thank you to everyone for donating to our Holiday Food Drive!

We had a great time Christmas caroling for our parents before school, and for the W-SR middle school students and staff. Thank you to everyone who came out to support the students before school, as well as the middle school for hosting us! We had a great time!
Nice job Southeast Elementary! We met our goal of collecting 500 items for the Northeast Iowa Community Action Food Bank. As of today, we have collected 601 items. That is a great show of generosity towards others! The food drive at Southeast will continue through 12/14/23

First grade Halloween math scoot!
The first grade classes got together to learn about how animals have different traits that help them survive. They used folded straws as warbler beaks and cut/folded paper cups as duck bills and attempted to pick up food like those animals.
Second grade students learned about skeletons and the importance of our bones. Students made their own x-ray image that looks especially cool when held against a window!
Third graders completing a Halloween themed math scoot and solving problems!
Second grade music students are doing a great job practicing playing the xylophone today!

Thank you to the Waverly Fire Department for spending the day with us at Southeast on October 9th. Members of the team taught our students about fire prevention, including providing our students with the opportunity to learn in the Waverly Fire Department Educational Smoke Trailer. This is all in conjunction with National Fire Prevention Week.
