Waverly-Shell Rock High School held a student meeting today, and two key topics were shared with students. Officers from the Waverly Police Department provided an informal overview of the Run / Hide / Fight protocol used in response to active shooter situations. Students received age-appropriate information about how this protocol applies within the school environment and how it can be relevant in other public spaces. The school values the strong partnership with the Waverly Police Department and appreciates their service to our students and community.

Students also heard a presentation from the Student Athlete Advisory Committee about upcoming events for the "Nest", planned theme nights, and the expectations for sportsmanship that reflect the Go-Hawk Gold Standard.

Our Sports Turf Management class recently rejuvenated and refreshed one of our school memorial areas around our parking lot. This job required them to work together and consider all of the needs of a landscaping project like this so it can be easily maintained, maintain longevity, and have quality eye appeal.

On Wednesday, 17 members of the high school teaching staff, along with our principal, volunteered at the Northeast Iowa Food Bank to help package bulk food. The team worked together to package 46 boxes of cereal to be distributed across Northeast Iowa. They also had the opportunity to tour the facilities and learn more about the food bank's impact on the community. This effort not only supports those in need but also sets a great example for our students about the importance of giving back. It’s moments like these that show what it truly means to be part of the Waverly Shell Rock School District family. Proud to see our teachers and administrators lead by example! It’s always a great day to be a Go Hawk! 🦅💙 #GoHawks #CommunityImpact #GivingBack"

🎉 A huge 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 to the WSR Dance Team for earning the Lois Turnage Community Service Award from the Iowa State Dance Team Association – an honor they’ve earned nearly every year since 2008! 🏆💛🖤 Efforts like Project Linus and Filling the Truck for Hope Lodge, make a real difference. Plus, they’re always ready to jump in when the community needs a hand – like helping with hot chocolate for this weekend’s Christmas Carriage Rides with the Waverly Chamber! Thank you, Go-Hawk dancers, for leading with kindness and making our community proud! 👏 #WSRPride #Gohawks #CommunityChampions #ItsAGreatDayToBeAGoHawk
