📚🌎 Mrs. Reuscher’s 3rd graders are diving into history as they learn all about Immigration and Ellis Island! 🇺🇸
Students took a virtual interactive tour of Ellis Island, making ten different stops to discover what immigrants experienced on their journey to America. They read to each other, discussed the challenges and hopes of new arrivals, and explored Ellis Island using Google Earth for a closer look.
To wrap up the experience, each student wrote a pretend letter as an immigrant to a loved one back home — sharing what they experienced at Ellis Island. ❤️✉️

Our students are bringing leadership to life through our Leader in Me Outdoor Environment initiatives. From organizing and caring for recess equipment to taking ownership of their surroundings in small groups, they are making a lasting impact. Their efforts have led to new playground equipment for everyone to enjoy, making our outdoor spaces even more fun.

Students in Mrs. Lee’s first grade class have been diving into the magical world of fairy tales! 📚✨ We’ve been learning about the key elements that make up a fairy tale: characters, setting, problem, solution, and a happily ever after!
To wrap up our learning, students completed a fun culminating activity where they created the setting for Hansel and Gretel, imagining the moment the children discover the witch’s candy-covered house. The creativity was incredible!
Along the way, we also enjoyed reading and exploring other favorite fairy tales like Rumpelstiltskin, Rapunzel, Jack and the Beanstalk, and many more. It’s been a sweet adventure in storytelling! 🍭🏰

🎉 120th Day of School Celebration in 1st Grade! 🎉
Our 1st graders at Prairie West celebrated the 120th day of school with some fun, hands-on math activities! In first grade, students work hard to build number sense with numbers 0–120—counting, writing numbers, adding, subtracting, and more.
To celebrate all the learning we’ve done so far, we spent the day exploring the number 120 in creative ways:
🍭 We tested a big question: Would it take more or less than 120 licks to reach the center of a Tootsie Pop?
📿 We made Fruit Loop necklaces using exactly 120 cereal pieces.
🔴 We created gumball machine pictures filled with 120 “gumballs.”
It was a fun day full of math, creativity, and celebration of how much our students have learned this year! 🎈📚

What a joyful reminder that learning (and fun!) happens in every season 🌞🌸
They were having so much fun yesterday in the snow! I thought it would be a great photo op 💕

Our Transitional Kindergarten class celebrated the 100th day of school as super learners by dressing up as superheroes! At home, each student decorated their own cape using 100 items. In class, we made superhero masks, took on a 100-item STEM building challenge, tried the 100-lick lollipop challenge, and enjoyed a truly super day of learning and fun!

It was a day full of hands-on learning in Mrs. Lee’s classroom! We kicked off the morning reading flashlight books, then wrapped up our geography unit by practicing our compass skills with a fun game of hide-and-seek. One student hid an object while their partner followed directional clues—north, east, south, and west—to find it.
To end the day, Mrs. Cook, our agriculture teacher, visited to teach us all about dairy cows. After learning where dairy products come from, we made our own ice cream! 🍦 What a fun and memorable day of learning!

🔨📐 We really built some knowledge last week! 🏗️📚
After returning from break, Mrs. Reuscher’s third graders rolled up their sleeves for a construction-packed day of learning! Students measured up their math skills by finding perimeter and area, explored real blueprints of Prairie West and other buildings, and solved problems like true architects in the making.
They also constructed their understanding by reading biographies of famous architects, asking thoughtful questions, and digging into the details. To top it off, students drafted construction-themed opinion writing pieces and used their grammar tools to fix mistakes.
It was a fun-filled day where learning was built to last! 👷♂️👷♀️✨

Spreading Holiday Cheer at Waverly Health Center! Our students brought the magic of the season to Waverly Health Center with the beautiful ornaments they created for the hospital Christmas trees. The trees are a bright spot in the halls for patients, families, and staff. Thank you to WHC for sharing photos of the decorated trees—and for submitting the story to the Waverly Newspaper!
