Meet the 1st Grade Teachers! The red carpet reveal for our Teacher Swap was a hit, and the kids had so much fun meeting their “new” teachers for a fun activity at the end of the day. It was an unforgettable way to celebrate all their hard work and excitement for reading during the Read-a-Thon!

Our Read-A-Thon celebration was a blast! We kicked things off with the principal getting pied in the face — the students LOVED it!

Welcome, Prairie West Kindergarten and TK Class of 2038!
We’re so excited to meet our newest little learners at Kindergarten Round-up!
Get ready for big smiles, new friends, and the start of an amazing adventure. Let the journey begin!

Fun at the Library! We’re joining in on the March Madness fun with picture books! Our library is participating in an exciting bracket challenge featuring Goldfinch Award-winning books from this year and the past few years. Thanks to an awesome partnership with 45 other teachers and libraries through AEA, we’re all voting to help decide this year’s champion.
Based on votes from students and our year, the favorite to win so far is "There's a Ghost in this House" by Oliver Jeffers! It’s been a blast seeing how much the kids love it.
Plus, we’re continuing to have a great time playing chess!

🎉 Save the Date! 🎉 Get ready for an unforgettable night at Prairie West! Join us for a Disco Dance Party that’s more than just dancing—it’s packed with fun games and activities for everyone! Mark your calendars: Friday, May 2nd, 5:30 to 7:30!

Spend your RAT bucks before they expire!

It’s a great experience to have the Waverly Public Library’s bookmobile at Prairie West! Even more exciting is the involvement of former Carey students, now middle school ambassadors, helping guide the elementary students to where they need to be.

We are in our jump rope unit! Students are working with our long ropes with partners! A lot of the 3rd and 4th graders even did Double Dutch with the jump ropes!

More pictures from Prairie West Kindergarten through 3rd grade Media Center students

In library the last two days, our Kindergarten through 3rd grade students heard two of our Iowa book award selections, "Sprout Branches Out" by Jessika Von Innerebner and "Farmhouse" by Sophie Blackall. After reading, the students watched a short video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W5OSHXIm3Lk from the author and illustrator about the illustrations in "Farmhouse". To conclude the day, students read, made illustrations similar to Sophie Blackall's, played memory based on "Sprout Branches Out" or did a Sprout activity page. Fun library days!

It’s amazing to see kindness and positivity filling our school every day. Let’s keep the love spreading through all of February at Prairie West!
